A method to learn about and how to play the “ZAMPOGNA,” the “ITALIAN BAGPIPE.”
Popular wind instrument, legendary and characteristic, whose ancestral vibration has enchanted and thrilled entire generations of listeners from all over the world, for millennia until today. Players and performers, better known as bagpipers, have almost always exclusively handed down sounds and repertoires orally, with all the pros and cons that this custom could generate. Over time, the need arose to structure its enormous, and still little known, musical potential in a recognizable course of study, which could at the same time enhance its tradition and foster innovation.
This method, designed for both beginners and experts, offers the possibility of approaching and expanding the study of the Italian bagpipe with key, through a general and detailed overview of the instrument that includes some main historical notes and reveals its organological and musical characteristics. From theory to practice, page after page, the first study approaches are addressed, from posture to positioning, from breathing to bag control, passing through exercises and techniques of articulation and execution, up to the interpretation of pieces with different levels of difficulty.
