The dream of anyone new to jazz: improvising by creating a beautiful melody! Composing music in real time, music that wasn’t there before and now comes flowing out of the instrument exciting your heart first and then the listeners.

Showing everyone a way to succeed in building this beautiful and desired “skill” is the ambitious project of two musicians, Angelo Schiavi and Fabrizio Bosso, who have devised a comprehensive manual from the point of view of harmonic explanations, study practice and language. With the aim of guiding the enthusiastic student through the complex world of harmonic theory with organization and clarity, six tunes are exposed, thoroughly analyzed and used as a training ground for identifying and practicing such study techniques as the “guideline”, the “enriched theme” and the practice saturated with phrases extracted from the recordings provided with the manual.

All material played by trumpet and alto sax is provided in transcription to allow for technical/linguistic training as well. This manual will become the inseparable study companion for any musician who intends to refine playing skills, in deference to the tradition of great Jazz, while not neglecting a study methodology that allows personal originality and relevance.
